Will at 5 days old. I’ve become that mom who pours over old pictures of my baby and cries about how big he’s getting already.
Hello world! Three and a half weeks later, we’re finally coming up for air. It only took an entire month to be able to figure out how to squeeze thirty minutes in to write a blog post… we’ll call that a win?
But really, TGINT.
We’re good! So, so good. Mom-ing is so hard, but goodness the intensity of this adoration is out of this world. I thought I knew what love was, and then I had a baby. Entirely earth shifting. I just stare at him in awe for half the day every day, knowing that I made the best kid in the entire universe.
It’s pretty hilarious how instantaneously your standards plummet when you’re at home with a newborn. I haven’t cried in a week, I managed to get a collective five hours of sleep last night, and Will has decided that he doesn’t totally hate pacifiers. I haven’t vacuumed my floor in two weeks and I didn’t find time to take a shower this morning (blog post or shower?), but you know what? We’re good! Thrilled, really, because this time last week we were having daily sobs (post-partum hormones… ho-ly cow), half hour increments of sleep, and my kid thought I was trying to choke him every time we tried a paci.
*I spoke too soon. The second half of this post brought to you two hours later by nap #2.*
The last three weeks have really taught me a lot about myself, Hunter, our marriage, and what’s generally important in life. Cute but functionless Etsy-esque crib mobiles are stupid, sometimes the kindest thing you can do for your spouse is take on that middle of the night diaper change without waking them, and your own vanity is small potatoes when you have to decide between extra baby cuddles and putting on mascara. Oh, and invest in extra burp cloths. So many burp cloths.
It’s probably still going to be a while before anything becomes very regular around here, but I’ve been trying to at least update Instagram every now and then. Warning: Excessive baby photos ahead. I’ve already lost a dozen followers, you grinches, you. But he’s cute! And occasionally I even make appearances wearing makeup! So stop in and say hello. You’ll get big internet high fives from me and Will.
